Cheap holidays to Northumberland

Let’s go over the best things to do, best places to go and best things to eat on your trip to Northumberland.

The day must begin with a delicious breakfast at Granny’s. Granny’s is a tea store and delicatessen serving everything from substantial handmade breakfasts to lunch hampers and afternoon tea, according to TripAdvisor, it is one of the greatest breakfasts in Northumberland. If you visit, be sure to sit in the basement, which has been transformed into a pleasant, eccentric lounging area.

Castles with a rich history

The mediaeval castles of Northumberland are the county’s most well-known feature. Bamburgh Castle, which has been above the Northumberland coastline for 1400 years, is the first castle you should see on your tour. Without a visit to this portion of the country, no journey to this section of the country would be complete. The castle, located on top of a basalt outcrop overlooking the North Sea, is regarded as one of the greatest in the country.

Billy Shiel’s boat tours, which take you across the beautiful islands, depart from Seahouses. They are well-known for their seal and puffin field expeditions.

For lunch, your best priced for value place is Neptune’s. It’s very reasonably priced and the fish is delicious. It’s a family-run restaurant that has been serving up fresh fish and chips for over 20 years.

You can tour the magnificent Kings Hall, Cross Hall, reception rooms and armoury. Another castle to visit is Chillingham Castle and it is signed from the A1. As well as the beautiful castle grounds with the Italian Garden and woodland walks there are the dungeons and torture chamber to visit inside. The castle is said to be the most haunted in the country and ghost tours are held most evenings, although you will need to book in advance for a ghost tour.

Nature reserves

You’re on your way to Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve, from which you may head to Holy Island. It’s important to note that the only way to get to the island is to cross a single bridge that only opens twice a day.

Lindisfarne Castle, which was erected in the 1500s, is a must-see attraction. Pilgrim’s Coffee, the only coffee roasters on the island, is just charming for coffee enthusiasts. It takes around half an hour to walk to the castle from there. Few people trek up to Emmanuel Head, but if you do, make sure you see the lighthouse, which was erected in 1810.

For supper, visit one of Northumberland’s most prominent seafood restaurants, which is famed for its crab and mussel dishes.

St Abbs and The Avengers

St Abbs is a highly recommended place to stay. It’s popular for various movie locations, including 2019 superhero film Avengers: Endgame as the location of New Asgard. St Abbs has featured as the “Isle of Eroda” in the music video of Harry Styles’ 2019 single “Adore You”. The picture-perfect fishing village is surrounded by rugged coastline and home to a bustling Harbor homing 50,000 seabirds.
