Jurys Inn Derby Historical Timeline

Although we’ve been around for 30 years, our history predates the term “Jurys Inn.” You may trace the development of Jurys Inn hotels back to the following series of events.

William Jurys started a lodging establishment at No. 7 College Green in Dublin in the year 1839. The inn’s rooms were designed to appeal to business travellers, much like those seen in modern day Jurys Inns.

When William Jury passes away in 1866, his cousin Henry James Jurys purchases the hotel. He has it expanded and renamed the Jurys Hotel.

The British army takes over Jurys Hotel in 1918, during the Irish War of Independence.

In 1922, a gang of merchants takes control of the Jurys Hotel.

After establishing a presence in Westport and Sligo with the building of hotels in that year, Jurys divests its holdings and reorganises as a new firm in 1972 to buy lodgings in Dublin, Cork, and Limerick.

In 1986, Jurys joins the Irish Stock Exchange as a publicly traded company.

The first Jurys Inns hotel opens in Galway in April of 1993. Dublin’s Christchurch neighbourhood had its first hotel the following month. Both of these hotels are thriving in modern times.

In 1997, the first British Jurys Inn opened in Belfast, and a year later, a Jurys Inn opened in Limerick. With the opening of two more hotels in Dublin and Cork in prior years, the total number of hotels in the area has increased to six.

In 1998, a Jurys Inn opened in the trendy London neighbourhood of Islington. It’s the first of several Jurys Inns to open in the UK.

In 1999, Jurys Inns purchased the posh hotel brand Doyle Hotels, becoming the combined company Ireland’s biggest hotel network, known as the Jurys Doyle Hotel Group. Because to this purchase, Jurys Doyle can now boast an extensive hotel collection on a global scale.

In 2007, Quinlan Private purchased Jurys Inn and severed ties with the Doyle Hotels.

The Oman Investment Fund purchased 50% of Jurys Inn in 2008.

In 2009, Jurys Inn Prague opened as the chain’s first property on the European continent.
